"I only pray when I ain't got a prayer"
Jelly Roll's "Need A Favor" comes into the ear buds this morning. The line "and I only pray, when I ain't got a prayer" certainly resonates. I'm thinking it speaks to our timing, commitment, and faith in our lives and careers.
Timing plays a significant role in any great career and GREAT timing is a result of our ability to be positioned for opportunity when it presents itself and then executing on it.
Opportunity comes from building your network both in-person through work or social activities and through your virtual networks like LinkedIn or TalentBlvd.com.
Execution requires you to always be present and understand your audience or potential employer. It means you've done your homework, know what the unmet need is, and you understand how you are going to address. KNOW YOUR VALUE, always.
Commitment to your career growth and opportunity means social profiles, reels, resumes, and elevator pitches should be current and most importantly, forward looking, not necessary a summary of your past. Skate to where the puck is GOING to be, not where it's been. Love what you do and nurture it. If you treat it like work, then it will be.
Faith is maybe the biggest driver to where you can go or conversely, where you'll end up. The size of your faith will determine the scope of your career capacity and professional runway. Faith and belief will ultimately set the boundaries or framework of your potential.
As a career coach and mentor, I see far too many people that come into my sphere of influence or walk into the front door of TalentBlvd.com that haven't thought about how to create timing, understand commitment, or even believe in themselves.
Think about how you are managing these facets of your career and be proactive, not reactive. Your reaction should never have to be prayer when you don't have one.
